Newborn's Development in the Eighth Week

Learn about the developmental milestones that your baby may attain in the eight week of her growth and development.

Can you believe it? Another month just flew by! Your baby has now completed two whole months in her new world and she has finally started to get the hang of everything here. Even though she still has quite a long way to go, the situation at this moment is much better than what you and your baby had to face after you came back home from the hospital. But that does not mean that the surprises and everyday adventures have ended. You still have a lot to learn if you want your baby to grow up properly. Here are some of the things that you and your baby will experience in the eighth week.

Baby’s Sleeping Pattern

During the eighth week you will start noticing a difference in your baby’s sleeping pattern. Your baby will start sleeping less now. Instead of sleeping at regular intervals throughout the day, you baby will now sleep more in the afternoons and stay awake at night making things difficult for you. Even though they tend to be quiet when they are awake and do not cry much, they still just refuse to sleep. So, look forward to the coming sleepless nights as some bonding period with your little one.

Doctor Visits

The eight week is the time for your baby to go take the right vaccine shots. Though it is going to painful for your baby and heart breaking for you to see your baby cry her heart out due to her discomfort, this is something you absolutely have to do during the eighth week. These shots are an absolute necessity if you want your baby to stay safe from all the dangerous diseases that they are vulnerable to.

Development of Motor Skills

Your baby has now started to control his or her hands and legs much better. She has learnt to grip and grab things tightly and will try to grab things frequently. Freeing the thing from her grip is going to be an extremely difficult task. Her hand and eye co-ordination will improve a great deal this week. The moment she spots something that is enough to peak her curiosity, you will find her lunging for it and wrapping her tiny fingers tightly around the objects.

The Habit of Putting Things in Mouth

As your baby has now become an expert in making a grab for anything within her reach, a new problem arises. Every baby has the habit of tasting everything she sees. So, the moment she grabs something, she puts it in her mouth. While some of these things might just be food, others may be harmful objects that can have a potential to cause choking hazard. So, you should keep a strict eye on what your baby is gripping onto. Also keep all the dangerous and harmful objects out of her reach. Anything that is small enough to go down the wind pipes becomes a threat to babies. So be careful.

Introducing the Outside World

Your baby is now finally settling down and trying to gel properly with this world. So, now would be the perfect time to take them out for walks in the afternoon to give them small doses of the world that lies outside their cot or their so familiar room.
So help your baby to grow up properly by teaching them to do the new things properly. Keep them healthy and fit and guide them through their difficulties. Your little angel needs a lot of love and support from you because moms are their best friends, you know. So, do not let them down!

What kind of developmental milestones do babies attain by eight week? How to aid the growth and development of an eight week old baby? Discuss here.
